The MKS Sylvan Touring is one of the most enduring designs in the cycling world, having remained virtually unchanged for over four decades. It is the wide-platform variant of the Sylvan line, designed to provide maximum foot support and comfort for long-distance riding, commuting, and urban cycling.

Unlike the "Next" or "Supreme" versions, the standard Sylvan Touring uses a traditional, user-serviceable bearing system that rewards long-term maintenance.

1. Oversized Platform

The Touring model features the largest step area in the Sylvan family. The 94mm width provides a stable base that accommodates a wide variety of footwear, from dedicated cycling shoes to casual sneakers and boots. This width helps distribute pressure across the foot, reducing hotspots and fatigue on multi-hour rides.

2. Traditional Cup & Cone Bearings

While modern pedals often use non-serviceable cartridges, the Sylvan Touring features a classic cup-and-cone system.

• Longevity: If kept clean and greased, these pedals can last for decades.

• Feel: When properly adjusted, they offer a very smooth, "analog" rotation.

• Serviceability: They can be completely disassembled for an overhaul using basic bike tools.

3. "Classic" Tooth Profile

The cage plates feature a semi-aggressive tooth profile. It is sharp enough to provide reliable grip in wet weather but shallow enough that it won't prematurely destroy the rubber soles of everyday shoes.

4. Customization Options

• Toe Clips/Straps: The body is pre-drilled to accept standard toe clips and straps for riders who want extra foot retention.

• Reflectors: MKS offers bolt-on reflectors (sold separately) that integrate into the cage plates.
